"...I finally was able to attend APG's Wisconsin Concealed Carry-Basic course and I was totally impressed. This course went far beyond the minimal expectations of a WI CCW course for the permit, plus we had a shooting experience. The course material was excellent and it was a great deal financially. APG's Team for this course, Dom and Mark, emphasized the total experience of the right of self defense. Preparation for, the act of, the mindset of, aftermath of, and legal issues were very well covered.
Anecdotal experiences from the Instructors made this course personal and realistic. Video clips of real events and shoot-don't scenarios gave course participants a great chance to discuss the above mentioned total experience of self defense. This course was not just a bunch of slides slapped together but a professional overture from beginning to end of quality material.
Dom also gave us each a flash drive with the carry information and laws from several states and the federal government. Wisconsin's information included files of not only Act 35 and the FAQ's from the DOJ, DNR and NRA but also legislative history of the bill and current rules being established - a wealth of well-organized information. It is a shame that more people from xxxxxx [redacted] didnt take advantage of Dom's offer. Even if they had taken other courses as I did, this was well worth the time and tuition. Given that most WI CCW courses are about 3 or 4 hours without shooting, I wonder what was left out of those courses. In Saturday's course, we went for about 8 hrs, through a working lunch, and then shot afterwards. I'm not saying that other courses are or were not good, but I can say that after taking this course, it was the best I've taken with respect to preparation for carrying in Wisconsin. Intermediate and advanced shooting skills and techniques will be offered by APG and I intend to take these as well. The Portage Rod and Gun Club is also a great facility although I wish it was somewhat closer for me.
I can easily but wholeheartedly recommend APG's course and program to anyone who wants to not only satisfy the WI Concealed Carry Permit requirements but also to achieve a better understanding of carrying a weapon for self defense.
As a commentary to Dom, I was impressed by his knowledge of current laws and LE practices. His professional career in law enforcement is an asset to being the instructor for this course. Also, Dom is heavily involved in the legislative issues in Wisconsin and has been for many years. In my opinion, he is a leading advocate for our right to carry. He is a strong proponent of Constitutional Carry but also realizes that while Act 35 is probably the best we do for now, it is not the best we should end up with. He is not one to just talk about the issue. He does something about it. I've witnessed his testimony at the hearings. I've received and read his Alerts. This guy is on top of things and dedicated to the cause. For that, I thank him. I wish more professionals and instructors would take a more active role in promoting our rights. Dom's enthusiasm and dedication to not only the course he teaches but protecting and promoting our rights is downright commendable. Thank you, Dom.
